Mumbai: Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh failed to appear before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell on Monday after being summoned for questioning in a case in which he allegedly made indecent remarks at a concert in Delhi, and has asked investigators for more time to appear.

The summons

According to a report in IANS, the rapper-singer was due to appear before an investigating officer on October 5 to have his statement recorded. Instead, Honey Singh, whose real name is Hirdesh Singh, asked for more time in the case.

The Maharashtra Cyber Cell sent out the summons in connection with a complaint alleging that he made objectionable remarks during the Delhi performance. The complainant lodged the report with authorities in Maharashtra after the concert, which led to the notice against Honey Singh. The investigation remains ongoing.

A year of run-ins with the law

It is the latest legal tangle for the Punjabi rapper and singer, who has been in and out of controversies this year. Earlier in 2026, he was called out by netizens for a sleazy remark in a viral video about having sex in cars, and later posted an apology video saying it was never his intention to hurt, insult or offend anyone.

In April 2026, links to his song "Volume 1" were taken down from social media and other platforms after the Delhi High Court ordered the Central Government to remove them, describing the track as obscene, vulgar and derogatory towards women. He was pulled up by the court again in May 2026 and directed to file an affidavit. The Hindu Shakti Dal organisation has also alleged that he performed an objectionable song at the Indira Gandhi Stadium last year.

Music continues

Amid the controversies, his music output has continued: a 2024 Netflix documentary produced by Guneet Monga, "Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous", premiered with the rapper revealing he suffers from bipolar disorder, and last month his track "Casa Tupka Anthemo" with Priyanshi released on music platforms worldwide.
