MUMBAI: National award-winning actress Yami Gautam has urged the media and the public to refrain from using artificial intelligence to alter or enhance her photographs from public appearances, stressing that such manipulation should not happen without the individual's knowledge and consent.
In a post on X on Saturday, Yami wrote: "A sincere request to the media. Please refrain from using AI to alter or enhance my photographs from public appearances. Kindly use images in their original form. Altering or manipulating an individual's image or likeness using AI should not be done without their knowledge and consent. Thank you in advance for respecting my request!"
Rising concern over AI-generated celebrity content
Her comments arrive amid growing unease in the film industry over AI-generated celebrity imagery. The plea comes in the wake of the recent 'Chuttamalle' row, in which Jr NTR issued a stern warning after an AI-generated video involving the song from 'Devara' began circulating online, prompting the actor to threaten legal action and appeal to people not to watch or share such content.
Yami's note is one of the most direct appeals from a mainstream actor on the issue, asking editors and publishers to carry photographs exactly as they are shot. The actress, currently gearing up for her upcoming film 'Nayyi Navelli', framed the request as a matter of consent rather than vanity.
The debate around AI-altered imagery of public figures has intensified this year, with several actors speaking out against manipulated visuals that blur the line between real appearances and synthetic ones.
