Chinese electric-vehicle maker XPeng has given its next-generation G9L flagship SUV a global debut at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, opening order books in Europe as it pushes a strategy of designing, testing and building cars to global standards outside China.

The vehicle

The G9L is offered in battery-electric and range-extended-electric versions. It measures 5,120 mm in length with a 3,100 mm wheelbase, and XPeng highlights a wheelbase-to-length ratio of 0.605 as the basis for balancing interior space with handling agility.

Technology sits at the centre of the model. It runs XPeng's VLA 2.0 physical-AI model, designed to let its intelligent-driving capabilities generalise faster across regions, and carries the company's Turing AI chip, the same chip used in XPeng's IRON humanoid robot. Standard chassis equipment includes dual-chamber air suspension, intelligent variable damping and rear-wheel steering with up to 15 degrees of angle.

Global testing and European production

XPeng developed the G9L as a global model from the outset. Its validation programme ran across 26 countries and regions over three years, covering about 6.74 million kilometres of road testing, 192 crash tests and more than 110 testing protocols, with validation for both left- and right-hand-drive configurations. The company says the vehicle is engineered to meet four major five-star safety standards, including Euro NCAP and Australia's ANCAP.

European production has already begun in trial form. The first pre-production G9L was built at Magna's plant in Graz, Austria, making it the fourth XPeng model produced at that facility, and the vehicle then travelled 1,324 kilometres from Graz to Paris, a journey the company used to demonstrate charging capability, safety systems and driving performance. XPeng plans to roll the G9L out across 64 countries and regions, with European pricing to be announced at the show.

The bigger expansion

The G9L launch extends XPeng's overseas push beyond exports into localised development and manufacturing. The company says it has delivered more than 100,000 vehicles overseas to date, including over 60,000 in Europe and more than 6,000 in France. In the second quarter of 2026, overseas deliveries surpassed 20,000 units for the first time, up 81 per cent year-on-year, with overseas markets contributing 25 per cent of first-half revenue at an average selling price above 40,000 euros.

At the Paris Motor Show, which runs from October 12 to 18 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, XPeng is also displaying its IRON humanoid robot and flying-car technology, alongside the L03, P7+, G6, G9 and X9 models. The company will take part in the show's official Autonomous Lab programme and says it is running its first large-scale intelligent-driving test-ride programme outside China.
