The Central Board of Film Certification has cleared director Rahul Sankrityan's period action drama Ranabaali with a U/A certificate, paving the way for its worldwide theatrical release on October 16, a day after Rajinikanth's Jailer 2.

Pan-India release on October 16

Mythri Movie Makers, which has produced the film, shared the update on its social media pages, calling it a story that survived generations and announcing a grand worldwide release on October 16. The film was originally scheduled to arrive on September 11 before being pushed to the festive October window.

Vijay Deverakonda plays the title role of Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, with Rashmika Mandanna as his wife Jayamma. Arnold Vosloo, best known for his role in The Mummy, plays the antagonist Sir Theodore Hector. The project is produced on a large scale by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar, with T-Series presenting it.

Set against the British era

The film is set in the 19th century against a British-era backdrop and is based on real historical events between 1854 and 1878, mounted as a pan-India project. Sankrityan, known for Taxiwaala and Shyam Singha Roy, has said the screenplay went through 24 drafts over three years. The research drew on records of the Madras famine, including British-era gazettes preserved in the Ballari Collectorate archives, local folklore and the burra katha storytelling tradition of Rayalaseema.
