Vedanta Ltd has declared an interim dividend of Rs 5 per share for the financial year 2026-27, marking the company's first payout since its demerger into five separate entities earlier this year.
The board of directors approved the first interim dividend on Thursday, October 8. At Rs 5 per equity share with a face value of Re 1 each, the total payout amounts to about Rs 1,955 crore, according to the company's exchange filing.
The record date for the dividend has been fixed as Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Under the T+1 settlement system, October 13 will effectively be the last day to buy the shares to qualify for the payout.
Shares of Vedanta rose 3.48% to Rs 261.90 on Friday after the announcement, making it one of the market's notable gainers.
The dividend is the first since Vedanta demerged its businesses, with Vedanta Aluminium Metal, Vedanta Power, Vedanta Oil and Gas, and Vedanta Iron and Steel spun off and beginning trading in June. The residual company houses the Hindustan Zinc, Zinc International and base metals businesses.
Vedanta said the dividend follows a strong second-quarter performance, with record quarterly and half-yearly production across key businesses including zinc, aluminium, ferro alloys and ports, Press Trust of India reported.
Analysts, however, caution that payouts in absolute per-share terms may structurally decline from here. Sunny Agrawal, Head of Fundamental Research at SBI Securities, had said Vedanta would likely remain a dividend-paying entity, but future payouts would be driven mainly by its 60.71% stake in Hindustan Zinc and by LME zinc and silver prices.
