Investigation under way

Preliminary reports carried by news agencies suggested that the two were exposed to a toxic gas while working inside the plant's Blast Furnace-1, after which their health deteriorated rapidly. The exact and official cause of death has not yet been confirmed, and it is not yet known which gas they were exposed to or whether any lapse in safety standards played a role.

ESL Steel said the two employees received a preliminary medical check-up after the exposure and were rushed to a hospital, but doctors declared them brought dead. Local police reached the spot and took custody of the bodies for post-mortem examinations.

The management expressed deep grief over the accident and offered condolences to the bereaved families, saying all possible assistance and support were being extended to them. ESL Steel operates the Bokaro plant as a subsidiary of Vedanta Iron & Steel Limited.
