The Tripura cabinet has cleared a package of welfare and employment decisions ahead of Durga Puja, including free festive rations for nearly 10 lakh families, the creation of 1,061 teacher posts and the establishment of a state staff selection commission.
The decisions were announced by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury after the cabinet meeting at the state Secretariat in Agartala on Wednesday.
Free rations for Puja
Around 9.92 lakh ration card holders in the state will receive 1 kg of sugar, 2 kg of flour and 500 grams of semolina (suji) free of cost during the Durga Puja period. The commodities will be distributed through fair price shops during October and November.
The state government estimates it will need roughly 243 metric tonnes of semolina, 1,984 metric tonnes of flour and 930 metric tonnes of sugar for the scheme, with the total expenditure expected to fall between Rs 9.35 crore and Rs 9.85 crore.
1,061 new teacher posts
The cabinet created 700 new Graduate Teacher (SCGT) posts under the Secondary Education Department for teaching Classes IX and X. It also cleared the filling of 361 posts under the Elementary Education Department, comprising 75 Graduate Teacher and 286 Under Graduate Teacher posts.
Jobs and recruitment body
Beyond teaching, the cabinet approved recruitment of 213 personnel under the Agartala Municipal Corporation and 8 Lower Division Clerk (Group-C) posts under the Science and Technology Department. A decision was also taken to establish the Tripura Staff Selection Commission, which will conduct recruitment examinations for Group-B, Group-C and Group-D posts in the state.
The cabinet also raised the sitting allowance for members of the Scheduled Caste Welfare sub-committee from Rs 100 to Rs 200, and increased the daily allowance for minority boarding students from Rs 65 to Rs 100.
