Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026, comfortably beating analyst expectations, the company said on October 2 — giving investors fresh evidence that demand for its electric vehicles may be stabilising after two consecutive years of declining annual sales.

The figure topped Tesla's own company-compiled consensus of 461,974 deliveries from 24 analysts, while Visible Alpha data cited by Reuters put the Wall Street expectation at 456,896. Shares jumped about 4.7% to $370.59 in Friday trading.

**Deliveries beat production**

Tesla produced 464,391 vehicles in the quarter — 22,141 fewer than it delivered, indicating the company drew down inventory. Deliveries of the mass-market Model 3 and Model Y totalled 478,237, with just 8,295 units of the pricier other models. The company also deployed 13.7 gigawatt-hours of energy-storage products, up from 12.5 GWh a year earlier.

The quarterly total was up about 1.3% from the second quarter's 480,126 deliveries, but down roughly 2% from the record 497,099 delivered in the third quarter of 2025, when US buyers rushed to take delivery before federal EV subsidies expired. That subsidy-driven pull-forward still colours the numbers: Tesla has delivered 1,324,681 vehicles so far in 2026, and needs about 311,448 more in the fourth quarter to match last year's 1,636,129 and avoid a third straight annual decline.

**Europe recovers as US lags**

The beat was driven by a European recovery — the Model Y proved popular in France and new EU registrations surged, with Tesla recently winning approval for supervised Full Self-Driving in eight European countries — even as the US market struggled after the elimination of EV subsidies last October. Tesla will publish its full third-quarter financial results after market close on October 21.
