Choreographer and television personality Terence Lewis is set to make his acting debut with 'Aaj Ka Mahishasur', with the makers unveiling the film's first look and a devotional song, 'Jagdambe Rani', during Navratri.
The film's team also visited Mumbai's Mumba Devi Temple to present the poster and seek blessings, timing the launch to the festival season and its theme of the triumph of good over evil.
A story of modern-day evils
Directed by Dhiraj Kumarr and produced by Gaurang Bhaskar, the film features an ensemble cast comprising Lewis, Padmini Kolhapure, Chandan Roy — best known for his role in the acclaimed series Panchayat — and Ayeesha Aiman.
Lewis said the film's thought-provoking storyline was a key reason he chose the project. The narrative moves beyond the traditional understanding of Mahishasur to examine the evils that exist around us as well as those within ourselves that often go unnoticed.
"Making my film debut with Aaj Ka Mahishasur is a very special experience for me," Lewis said in a statement shared with IANS. "What drew me to this film is its intriguing and thought-provoking story... There are evils around us, but there are also those within us that we often choose to ignore."
Music and the road ahead
The devotional track 'Jagdambe Rani' has been composed by the duo Amol–Abhishek, with lyrics by Abhishek Talented and vocals by Dev Negi and Divya Kumar.
Lewis is known for his work as a dancer, choreographer and television judge. His film choreography credits include 'Lagaan', 'Jhankaar Beats' and 'Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela' — his work on 'Lagaan' earned him the American Choreography Award in 2002 — and he has served as a judge on popular dance reality shows such as 'Dance India Dance', 'Nach Baliye' and 'India's Best Dancer'.
