Actor Tanushree Dutta has shared her first public reaction to the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar, who died of a massive cardiac arrest at his Goa residence on Thursday morning at the age of 75. In a video posted on her Instagram Story, Dutta said she would offer a fuller response once she has decided what it should be, while conveying condolences to his family.

'An odd day for all this to happen'

In her video message, Dutta said she had heard the news while heading for a work commitment in Lucknow. She described it as an odd day for the news to break and said she was worried the evening's media attention would be focused on what she called the 'evil dead'. Her message, as reported by Times Now, added: 'I will give my reaction once I figure out what kind of reaction I should have. Definitely condolences to the family.'

A #MeToo history between the two

Dutta had accused Patekar of sexual harassment relating to the shoot of the 2008 film Horn Ok Pleassss, an allegation that resurfaced in 2018 during India's #MeToo movement. Patekar denied the allegation. Police later filed a closure report citing lack of evidence, which Dutta challenged; in 2025, a Mumbai court rejected her challenge.

Tributes pour in, state funeral in Pune

Patekar was found unresponsive at his Dona Paula residence in the early hours of Thursday. He had texted a friend around 2:30 am saying he was unwell, and was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors could not revive him after about 45 minutes of CPR. He died around 5:20 am.

Tributes poured in from across the industry, including Riteish Deshmukh, Kangana Ranaut and Ram Gopal Varma. Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered him as an 'intense actor who brought remarkable versatility' to his roles, noting his contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema and calling his passing a deep void.

His last rites are being performed with state honours at his Nanachi Wadi home in the Donaje area near Pune. He is survived by his wife Neelkanthi Patekar and son Malhar Patekar. His final film, Aditya Sarpotdar's Shakti Shalini, is scheduled for a December 2026 release.
