Chennai: Suzlon Group is investing around Rs 550 crore to set up three AI-powered wind turbine blade factories to fast-track execution of its order book and meet the rising demand of the domestic wind industry, company co-founder Girish Tanti said in an interaction with PTI.
Three new plants, 18 factories in all
Two of the blade facilities have been planned for Gujarat and Karnataka, while the third will come up in Tamil Nadu. Suzlon already has five blade factories in Jaisalmer, Bhuj, Ratlam, Dhule, and Anantapur. With the addition of the three units, the company will have India's largest smart wind manufacturing capacity, with a total of 18 factories.
Tanti said the company has earmarked capital expenditure of Rs 550 crore for the three projects, funded from internal accruals. Rs 200 crore is earmarked for the Tamil Nadu project, with the remainder to be utilised for the Gujarat and Karnataka facilities. The plants are expected to be operational by 2027, and will be located closer to wind project sites to improve logistics and cut transportation costs.
AI, jobs, and a 6 GW order book
The new facilities will be smart factories with AI-enabled solutions to boost productivity, quality, and safety. The move aims to accelerate order book execution and meet growing demand for indigenised wind equipment, Tanti said, adding that the government is also promoting the use of efficient Made-in-India equipment.
The plants are expected to create 3,000 direct and 12,000 indirect jobs, with 80 percent rural employment. As of March 2026, Suzlon had an order book of around 6 GW of wind energy projects. In FY26, the company reported revenue of Rs 16,679 crore and net profit of Rs 3,163 crore, up from Rs 10,851 crore in revenue and Rs 2,072 crore in net profit in FY25.
