Stalin Calls Vijay's TVK a 'Breaking Bad Party' Over Meth Seizure in Nagapattinam

New Delhi/Chennai — M.K. Stalin on Saturday launched a sharp attack on actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), calling it a "Breaking Bad party", after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence arrested a TVK functionary in Nagapattinam with a large methamphetamine haul allegedly meant for smuggling to Sri Lanka.

The DRI's Tiruchy zone arrested two men in Nagapattinam on Friday: N. Boopalan, 42, an advocate who is a TVK Nagapattinam district executive committee member and the party's election in-charge for the Kilvelur Assembly constituency, and J. Sughan alias Suganathan, 27. Two others — J. Parthiban, 29, and D. Sathish, 30 — were detained for inquiry. News reports put the seizure at 100 kg of methamphetamine, with DT Next valuing it at Rs 270 crore; Stalin's own post on X claimed the haul was 135 kg.

Stalin's charge

In his post on Saturday, Stalin wrote that the TVK was "not just a 'Bad Party' — it is a 'Breaking Bad' party," alleging that the arrested functionary had mistaken his government's drug-eradication speeches for lessons in concealment. He demanded that the full smuggling network behind the haul be traced and dismantled.

The wider-network claim remains Stalin's allegation: no response from the TVK to the allegation was carried in the reports checked at publication time.

Why it matters

The arrests land in the middle of an escalating political battle in Tamil Nadu, where the DMK and Vijay's TVK have been trading charges over law and order. A drug case with a direct link to a party functionary hands Stalin's camp a potent campaign weapon — and raises the stakes for how the TVK responds.
