Russian Bomb Attack Kills 12, Wounds 14 at Bus Stop in Ukraine's Kramatorsk, Authorities Say

A Russian bomb attack on a bus stop in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk killed at least 12 people and wounded 14 others on Thursday morning, according to Ukrainian authorities.

The attack struck a street where two city buses were operating. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy described the site as a bus stop, and police images from the scene showed bodies and the charred shell of a bus, Reuters reported.

Reaction

Regional governor Vadym Filashkin said on Telegram: "These are not 'the consequences of war', nor dry statistics. These are people killed by the Russian army."

Russia has not publicly responded to the claim in the Reuters report. The reported tolls come from Ukrainian authorities; no individual victims have been officially identified in the reporting.

Context

Kramatorsk is a key stronghold in Ukraine's "fortress belt", the backbone of its defences in the Donetsk region. Russia has demanded that Ukraine cede the rest of Donetsk before it stops fighting, a demand Kyiv has refused. The attack came a day after a massive Russian air assault across Ukraine, primarily targeting the country's power grid, in which dozens of people were killed, Reuters reported.
