The trailer of 'Doosra', a film inspired by India's famous 2002 NatWest Final victory over England, has drawn praise from former India captain Rohit Sharma and actor Anil Kapoor ahead of its theatrical release on October 23.

Rohit took to his Instagram Stories after watching the trailer, recalling that he was 15 when India won the final at Lord's. He wrote that the film captures why the moment was about more than just winning a cricket match, praising the team's comeback and confidence, and said he is looking forward to watching the film.

A blend of reality and fiction

Anil Kapoor also praised the trailer, saying he loved how director Abhinay Deo blends two different worlds - reality and fiction - seamlessly. He recalled the euphoria of the NatWest Series win, calling it truly unprecedented and saying it gave an entire generation the belief that India could win anywhere, against anyone.

The film connects the 2002 final - remembered for Sourav Ganguly waving his shirt from the Lord's balcony after India chased down 326 to beat England by two wickets - with the fictional story of Tara, a young girl growing up in a conservative household. As she struggles to find her identity and stand up against social expectations, Ganguly's celebration inspires her to speak up for herself.

Cast and crew

'Doosra' stars Plabita Borthakur, Ankur Vikal, Samidha Guru, Tvisha Seema and Krishna Gokani. It is produced by Masha Sajdeh and Rohan Sajdeh, with Neeta Shah as co-producer. Agnello Oswin Dias has written the story and screenplay, and Ram Sampat has composed the original score. The film arrives in theatres on October 23, 2026.
