Ringo Starr has cancelled his Sunday, September 27 concert at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, as a powerful nor'easter lashed the Jersey Shore with high winds and coastal flooding.
The venue announced the cancellation shortly after noon on Sunday, telling fans who bought tickets through Ticketmaster that refunds would be issued automatically. Starr addressed fans in a video message, saying there was "a lot of bad weather around" and that the authorities thought it better if the show did not go ahead, adding, "I send you peace and love."
Tour details
The show was part of the 86-year-old Beatles legend's 10-date fall tour, which opened on September 24 at the State Theater in Easton, Pennsylvania, and is scheduled to run through October 7 at the Palace Theater in Albany, New York. His next scheduled date is Tuesday, September 29 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
The current All Starr Band lineup features Steve Lukather, Colin Hay, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart, Gregg Bissonette and Buck Johnson — a rotating ensemble of rock veterans that has been the format of Starr's tours for years. No announcement has yet been made about whether the Holmdel date will be rescheduled.
The storm
The National Weather Service kept a high wind warning in effect for the Jersey Shore until noon Sunday, warning of sustained winds of 40 miles per hour with gusts up to 60, alongside coastal flooding that has already forced the cancellation of other outdoor events across the region. The nor'easter has been pounding the coast since Friday, bringing days of rain and storm surge.
