Actor Ranvir Shorey has responded to Rahul Bhatt's recent admission that he assaulted Shorey during the fallout of Shorey's relationship with Pooja Bhatt in the early 2000s, saying that what he did was defend himself.
Bhatt revisited the incident on a podcast hosted by Siddharth Kannan. He said an altercation had taken place between Shorey and his sister Pooja Bhatt, after which he stepped in. By his own account, he broke the glass of Shorey's car and one of his ribs, and was subsequently arrested and charged.
"I shouldn't have overreacted," Rahul Bhatt said, adding that he had taken the law into his own hands. He also praised Shorey's handling of the aftermath, saying the actor said "let bygones be bygones" during the compounding of the offence, which led to the FIR being quashed. Until then, a criminal case had been pending against him.

Reacting to reports of the interview on Wednesday, Shorey wrote on X that he was glad more than two decades of what he called "malicious propaganda and slander" had finally given way to some truth.
"Let me add the missing piece, so it can finally rest now: defending yourself against violence to escape someone toxic is not 'hitting'," Shorey posted.
Shorey and Pooja Bhatt grew close while working on the film Jism and were in a relationship in the early 2000s, which ended on a bitter note in 2002. Shorey had earlier alleged that Pooja's family had portrayed him as an alcoholic and abusive partner, and claimed Rahul assaulted him following an argument with her.
Rahul Bhatt acknowledged in the podcast that he had regretted his reaction and said he had "paid the price" for it at the time.
