Nepal's men's cricket campaign at the Asian Games 2026 came to a rain-soaked end on Tuesday, with their quarter-final against Sri Lanka at the Korogi Sports Park in Nagoya abandoned without even a toss.

Under the tournament rules, the higher-ranked team advances when a match cannot be played. Sri Lanka, ranked ninth in the ICC Twenty20 rankings, go through at the expense of 14th-ranked Nepal — who exit the competition without completing their quarter-final.

Nagoya's rain refuses to relent

Nagoya has been battered by continuous rain since Saturday, and Nepal have felt the worst of it. Their final group-stage match against Japan on Saturday was also washed out: the game was reduced to 15 overs, with Nepal scoring 149 for four, but the rain returned immediately after their innings and Japan never got to bat.

The deluge has disrupted the entire men's tournament. On Monday, the matches between Pakistan and Hong Kong and between India and Afghanistan were both abandoned without a ball being bowled, with India progressing on the basis of their higher ICC ranking.

Nepal's campaign

Nepal had opened their campaign brightly with a five-wicket win over Afghanistan, but the weather denied them a proper shot at a semifinal berth. For Sri Lanka, the advancement sets up a Thursday semifinal against India, who have reached the last four without taking the field in their quarter-final.
