Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held separate meetings with senior executives of IBM, AIA Group and General Atlantic in the United States this week, pitching India as a destination for deeper investment and collaboration across insurance, financial services and frontier technologies.
Goyal met IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna in New York, where the two discussed pathways to build on the technology major's longstanding presence in India and deepen cooperation across artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, quantum computing and other frontier technologies. In a post on X, Goyal said the talks focused on leveraging India's vast talent pool and rapid digital adoption to innovate and scale solutions for the world.
Investment push across sectors
The minister also met AIA Group Non-Executive Chairman Mark Tucker, discussing the Hong Kong-headquartered insurer's engagement in India and opportunities to strengthen investments in financial services and insurance. Goyal told the AIA chairman that India's regulatory reforms and rising insurance demand were creating long-term opportunities for global insurers, aligned with the government's vision of "Insurance for All by 2047".
With General Atlantic Chairman and CEO William E. Ford, Goyal discussed opportunities for the global growth-equity firm to deepen its business and investment ties with India, building on the opportunities presented by the country's growing economy.
US visit agenda
Goyal travelled to the US to participate in the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting. Alongside the New York meetings, he also engaged with US business leaders in Chicago and addressed members of the Indian diaspora, underlining the government's effort to court American capital and technology partnerships even as trade negotiations between the two countries continue.
