OMCs Raise Commercial LPG Price by Rs 62.50 a Cylinder, Hike Aviation Fuel by Rs 16 a Litre

State-owned oil marketing companies raised the price of commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 62.50 per 19-kg cylinder and increased aviation turbine fuel (ATF) by Rs 16 a litre, effective Thursday, citing firming international benchmark prices.

The revision takes ATF for domestic airlines to Rs 137 a litre from Rs 121 a litre. It is the third straight monthly increase for jet fuel, after a Rs 6.28-a-litre (5.46 per cent) rise in September and a Rs 5-a-litre increase in August. Jet fuel accounts for up to 40 per cent of an airline's operating costs, making fuel prices a key component of carriers' expenses.

Commercial LPG — used by hotels, restaurants and small businesses — was raised by Rs 9.50 in September. That followed cuts of Rs 192 in August and Rs 183.50 in July, after prices had surged to a record high in June amid disruptions to global energy supplies and elevated international prices. Between February and June, commercial LPG rates had risen by Rs 1,373 per 19-kg cylinder, from Rs 1,740.50 to Rs 3,113.50, before declining in July and August.

Prices of domestic LPG were left unchanged at Rs 942 per cylinder. Domestic cylinder prices had risen by Rs 89 per cylinder between March and June amid supply disruptions linked to the West Asia crisis and a surge in international energy prices.

The latest revisions are based on movements in international benchmark prices and the rupee-dollar exchange rate. ATF and LPG prices are revised on the first day of every month and may vary across states due to local taxes such as VAT. Petrol and diesel prices, which were increased earlier in May, remained unchanged.
