The National Testing Agency (NTA) has started the online registration process for the Joint CSIR-UGC NET December 2026 examination. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can now submit their applications on the official website, csirnet.nta.nic.in.
Key dates candidates should track
The application window opened on October 7, 2026, and will remain open until November 5, 2026, up to 11:50 pm, according to the schedule published by the NTA. Candidates who miss the regular deadline will get a late-fee window from November 6 to November 9, subject to payment of a late fee of Rs 500. The application correction window will be available from November 10 to November 12, also closing at 11:50 pm.
Exam schedule and pattern
The examination will be held in computer-based test (CBT) mode on December 19, 22 and 27, 2026. The computer-based examination will be conducted in two shifts each day, with every paper lasting three hours. The examination city intimation slip and admit card release dates will be announced separately by the NTA.
Who the exam is for
The Joint CSIR-UGC NET is conducted to determine eligibility for the award of the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to PhD programmes in Indian universities and colleges. The test covers five subjects: Chemical Sciences; Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences; Life Sciences and Bio-Technology; Mathematical Sciences; and Physical Sciences. Question papers will be available in both English and Hindi.
