Nissan has selected Valeo as the system Tier-1 supplier for its next-generation ProPILOT driver-assistance programme, which will combine the French automotive supplier's hardware and software platform with artificial intelligence driving technology from UK-based startup Wayve.
Under the programme, announced on October 1, Valeo will integrate Wayve's AI Driver technology — an AI-based driving software system — with its own sensors, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) computing and software capabilities to support Nissan's automated driving plans, ETAuto reported.
As the lead system integrator, Valeo will be responsible for validating, integrating and industrialising the complete solution. The company said it would deliver a production-ready hardware and software platform designed to provide 360-degree situational awareness and high-performance computing for Nissan's future vehicles.
A key element of the programme is an ADAS domain controller built to process complex AI algorithms and support centralised vehicle intelligence. Valeo said its platform would integrate Wayve's AI Driver software as the driving intelligence layer within an automotive-grade system, aiming to pair AI-based driving capabilities with the safety, quality and scalability demands of mass production.
Marc Vrecko, CEO of Valeo's Brain Division, said the programme showed the company's ability to combine its sensor portfolio, computing and software expertise with advanced AI. "Together with Nissan and Wayve, Valeo will deliver a seamless, safe and innovative AI Defined vehicle experience designed for mass production," he said.
The announcement underlines how closely AI software, sensors and high-performance computing are being woven into the next generation of automated driving systems, as carmakers look to move AI-driven assistance features from pilot programmes into vehicles built at scale.
