Fundamentum Frontier Advisors (F2A), with Nandan Nilekani as anchor investor and mentor, has secured aggregate subscriptions of ₹3,000 crore for a growth-stage fund focused on artificial intelligence and deep technology, and raised its hard cap to ₹3,500 crore on strong demand.
F2A General Partner Ashish Kumar told PTI that total demand exceeds ₹3,500 crore, with a final close for the remaining ₹500 crore of allocations expected soon.
70:30 Indian-to-overseas ratio
Indian and overseas investors put in money in a 70:30 ratio through two regulated vehicles, with overseas money coming mostly from institutions. Nilekani took the maximum allocation reserved for family trusts, the amount of which was not disclosed.
The fund is described as India's largest dedicated growth-stage AI and deep tech fund. It plans 12–15 investments over two to three years with cheques of ₹100–200 crore each. Three early-growth-stage investments are in advanced stages of closing within the next quarter, with initial cheques of ₹100–170 crore each — two in deep tech infrastructure and one in enterprise AI.
Investment focus
Planned allocation is roughly 40 per cent deep tech infrastructure, 40 per cent digital consumer and 20 per cent enterprise software, with at least half the money going to companies with deep technology IP. Focus areas include semiconductors, the AI compute supply chain, robotics, defence and advanced materials.
F2A, launched in May 2026 as the frontier-tech platform of Fundamentum Partnership, will invest only in India-domiciled companies. Fundamentum, founded in 2017, has previously backed PharmEasy, Spinny, KukuFM, Wishlink and Olyv.
