New Delhi: New Zealand's preparations for their upcoming five-match T20I series against India have been hit by a double injury blow, with Mark Chapman and Zak Foulkes ruled out of the tour. The series begins on October 22 at Hagley Oval.
Chapman, a key middle-order batter, suffered a left hamstring tear while playing in the European T20 league last month. He is expected to recover in time for the ODI leg of India's tour. Foulkes injured his right hip flexor during a recent Canterbury men's training session, and his return timeline is yet to be determined.
Replacements named
Allrounder Josh Clarkson and fast bowler Blair Tickner have been called up to the T20I squad in place of the injured duo. Head coach Rob Walter said he was "gutted" for Chapman and Foulkes and wished them a smooth recovery, adding that the team was fortunate to lean on the experience of Clarkson and Tickner for what he expects to be an intense series.
The updated Black Caps T20I squad is: Mitchell Santner (captain), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Josh Clarkson, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Bevon Jacobs, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith and Blair Tickner.
The T20I series opens India's multi-format tour of New Zealand, which also includes ODIs and Tests, and forms an important build-up for both sides ahead of next year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
