Mamelodi Sundowns dethroned Orlando Pirates with a 2-0 victory at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday to lift the 2026 MTN8 trophy.

Teboho Mokoena opened the scoring in the 11th minute to give Sundowns an early lead. Pirates had a golden chance to equalise, but goalkeeper Ronwen Williams saved Ghampani Lungu's penalty. Iqraam Rayners then converted a penalty in stoppage time to seal the victory and spark celebrations among the Sundowns supporters.

Cardoso's first domestic crown

The result ended Orlando Pirates' four-year run as MTN8 champions and delivered a domestic cup triumph for Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso — his first domestic title with the club. For Sundowns, one of South Africa's most decorated sides, the trophy adds another piece of silverware to a cabinet that has been dominated in recent years by league titles.
