Kriti Sanon is set to headline a yet-to-be-titled large-scale horror film backed by Maddock Films, marking her ninth collaboration with the production house, according to reports. Filmfare, in a separate report, says the project will be directed by Amit Sharma and is already in pre-production.
The film will be an out-and-out horror story rather than part of Maddock's popular horror-comedy universe, which includes titles such as Munjya and Roohi. Details of the plot, cast and release date have not been officially announced.
A new genre for the partnership
According to IANS, Sanon finalised the project after her recent outings in Cocktail 2 and Tere Ishk Mein, choosing to explore a genre she has not headlined before. Sources told the agency the film is being mounted on a grand scale, and that pre-production and other preparations are already underway.
The project is expected to be her second solo lead with Maddock after Mimi (2021), for which she won the National Film Award for Best Actress. Her association with the production house includes Raabta, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Luka Chuppi, Arjun Patiala, Mimi and Bhediya.
Box-office momentum
Sanon's last release, Cocktail 2 — directed by Homi Adajania and co-starring Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna — crossed INR 100 crore worldwide within six days of release, according to IANS, though collections slowed as the theatrical run progressed.
