eSIM specialist Kigen has announced that its new automotive eSIMs have achieved GSMA eUICC Security Assurance (eSA) certification — the industry's first eSA-certified eSIM supporting SGP.32 version 1.3, the latest GSMA specification for IoT eSIMs.

The Cambridge-based company, backed by Arm and SoftBank Vision Fund 2, said the certification was announced on September 29 through Media OutReach Newswire. The new eSIM pairs Kigen's eSIM operating system with Infineon's TEGRION SLI22 automotive security controller, giving connected-vehicle makers a secure platform designed to stay in service for more than a decade.

What the certification brings

Kigen said the implementation supports enhancements in SGP.32 v1.3, published in May 2026, including direct and indirect profile downloads, digital activation codes and emergency profile handling relevant to connected vehicles. It also prepares for the post-quantum era: although post-quantum cryptography is not yet part of GSMA specifications, Kigen said its platform implements hybrid key encapsulation combining classical and quantum-safe algorithms, letting automakers test end-to-end quantum-resistant communication.

The certification spans a three-product portfolio across Infineon's SLx22 chip family: the SLI22 for automotive, the SLC22 for consumer devices supporting SGP.22 v2.7, and the SLM22 for industrial IoT supporting SGP.32 v1.3 — all sharing the same OS and management stack, which the company says reduces fragmentation for carmakers building connected fleets.

Industry reaction

"Vehicles are becoming long-lived software platforms, so their connectivity trust anchor must remain secure and manageable long after production," said Vincent Korstanje, CEO of Kigen.

Gloria Trujillo, eSIM Technical Director at the GSMA, said the achievement is "an important step in translating GSMA eSIM IoT specifications into secure, interoperable technology for the next generation of connected IoT and vehicle fleets."

Katherine Diao, Head of IoT and Automotive Industry at China Mobile International, said her company is partnering with Kigen to introduce SGP.32-based security solutions to Chinese automakers.

Kigen said the eSIMs interoperate with more than 20 network providers ready for digital activation, and that automotive eSIM sampling will open for OEMs in the ETSI MFF2 package from October 2026.
