Kalamassery Gangrape Case: Two More, Including Woman, Nabbed in Kerala

Kerala Police have nabbed two more persons, including a woman, in connection with the alleged gangrape of a woman at Kalamassery in Kochi, news agency PTI reported on Wednesday.

The arrests take the number of accused taken into custody in the case to four. Two others — Sreeraj (30), of Karthikappally, Alappuzha, and Jith Martin (27), of Thrikkakara — were arrested on October 5 and remanded in judicial custody, The Hindu reported.

According to police, the woman was lured to a lodge at Edappally near Kochi after she came across an advertisement on OLX seeking a manager for a spa. She attended a personal interview on September 2; later that evening, a woman allegedly contacted her and asked her to come to the lodge, with an Uber taxi reportedly arranged for her travel. Police say she was then served juice, lost consciousness, and was allegedly gang-raped on September 2 and 3. Investigators believe she was kept at the lodge for a day and repeatedly assaulted.

Possible organised network

Kochi City Police Commissioner S. Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar said all aspects of the case were being investigated and that police were looking for the remaining accused. One of those in custody is suspected of links with several spas operating in Kochi, and police are examining whether the accused are part of a broader organised network involved in supplying women to customers through spas.

The accused were arrested by a team led by Kalamassery Inspector A.L. Abhilash and produced before the magistrate court. The Thrikkakara assistant commissioner said more arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
