Reliance Intelligence's AI wearables division is preparing to launch AI-powered wearable devices in India around November or December 2026, part of a wider push by Indian companies to build smart wearables tailored to local needs rather than copying global designs.

The plans were outlined at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, where Indian firms showcased wearables aimed at voice-based artificial intelligence assistance, digital payments, education and accessibility — moving the category beyond fitness tracking and phone notifications.

Jio eyes voice-first wearables with Indian language support

Jio's devices are being developed to let users access its AI services through different form factors, including glasses and audio devices. Planned features include live translation, AI-powered note-taking, scan-and-pay, music playback, hands-free calling and live cricket commentary.

Users will be able to activate the assistant with the voice command "Hello, Jio", using the features without taking out their smartphones. The company said the devices would support eight Indian languages — Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam — with four more planned.

Jio is working with multiple vendors and exploring configurations including audio-only frames, camera-equipped frames and true wireless stereo headsets. Final prices were not disclosed, but the company said it intended to make the devices affordable for Indian consumers.

Accessibility-focused glasses and local use cases

Ahmedabad-based assistive technology startup Torchit is approaching the category through accessibility, with its Jyoti ecosystem of smart glasses designed primarily for visually impaired users. The glasses offer six modes — Explore, Read, Medicine, Colour, Currency, and Food and Grocery — and the latest wireless version, launched in July 2026, has reached more than 40,000 users across India at a price of around ₹20,000 to ₹25,000.

US chip maker Qualcomm, which has worked with Jio and Lenskart on smart glasses, sees glasses emerging as an early growth segment in India, with local applications in payments, education and productivity. It demonstrated a glasses-based payment solution with Lenskart and the National Payments Corporation of India, using voice or fingerprint authentication.
