Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Monday deported 150 Bangladeshi nationals who officials said were living illegally in the Union Territory, flying them out on a special Indian Air Force aircraft to West Bengal for handover to the Border Security Force. Officials said a second batch of 150 people is scheduled to be deported on October 7.
The deportees were flown from Jammu and Kashmir to Bagdogra in West Bengal, where BSF personnel took custody of them for the final pushback process, officials said.
Survey identified around 600 people, officials say
According to officials and Srinagar police, cited by The Economic Times and OneIndia, the J&K administration and police had conducted a survey that identified around 600 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly living illegally across the Kashmir Valley. The individuals were held in a camp manned by Srinagar Police pending transport to Bagdogra, OneIndia reported.
The deportation is being carried out under the Foreigners Act, officials said. The immigration status of the deportees rests entirely on official statements; no independent court or non-government corroboration was visible at the time of reporting.
Second batch on October 7
Officials said the remaining deportations would continue in batches, with another 150 Bangladeshi nationals scheduled to be flown out on October 7. The administration has not publicly detailed the full timeline for deporting the rest of those identified in the survey.
The operation marks one of the largest coordinated deportation actions undertaken by the J&K administration in recent years, and comes amid a broader national drive to identify and deport undocumented foreign nationals.
