Infineon Technologies has completed its acquisition of C2i Semiconductor, a Bengaluru-based startup specialising in digital power-control technology for artificial-intelligence data centres and high-performance computing systems. The company announced the closure of the deal on October 10, 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.
C2i specialises in software-defined multiphase controllers, intelligent power stages and system-level power architectures. Its technology uses digital control and algorithms to adjust power conversion and regulation in real time as processor workloads change — a capability that is becoming increasingly important as AI servers move to much higher rack and processor power levels.
Why power matters in the AI race
Graphics processors and AI accelerators can create large and rapidly changing current demands, requiring power systems that combine higher efficiency with faster transient response and tighter voltage regulation. Infineon said it plans to combine C2i's digital control and software capabilities with its existing silicon, silicon-carbide and gallium-nitride power semiconductor portfolio, creating a broader platform spanning power devices, controllers and system-level power management.
The combined teams will also work on vertical power delivery and future substrate-integrated voltage-regulator technologies, which move voltage regulation closer to high-power processors to reduce distribution losses and support the higher current densities expected from next-generation AI accelerators.
Deeper roots in India
The acquisition also expands Infineon's engineering presence in India. C2i's team will become part of the company's Bengaluru operations, which Infineon sees as an important development centre for digital power technologies. The company currently employs about 2,800 people in India.
The deal is part of a wider wave of investment in the power infrastructure behind AI data centres, as chipmakers and cloud providers race to make training and inference hardware faster and more energy-efficient.
