The defending national champions were one quarter away from a stunning loss. Indiana erased an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit at Nebraska's Memorial Stadium on Saturday, edging the Cornhuskers 20-17 to keep the longest active winning streak in college football alive at 22 games.
Quarterback Josh Hoover threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns, both to wide receiver Nick Marsh, as the No. 5 Hoosiers moved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in Big Ten play. Nebraska, which had opened the season 5-0, fell to 5-1 and 2-1 in the conference.
Huskers seize control in Lincoln
Nebraska set the tone from the opening drive, taking an early 3-0 lead on a Kyle Cunanan field goal and extending it to 10-3 on a 10-yard touchdown run by N. Hunter in the first quarter. Indiana managed only a Nico Radicic field goal in response and went into halftime trailing 10-3, having scored as few points in a first half as in any outing under coach Curt Cignetti.
Radicic's 35-yard field goal early in the third quarter cut the gap to 10-6, but the Huskers struck again early in the fourth. Quarterback Anthony Colandrea broke through the Indiana defense on a 39-yard scoring run, bursting past several would-be tacklers, to put Nebraska ahead 17-6 with about 12 minutes left.
Two strikes from Hoover to Marsh
Indiana answered in seconds. On the very next offensive play, Hoover found Marsh for a 75-yard touchdown, closing the gap to 17-13 with 11:51 remaining. The defense then held firm — including a late stand after Nebraska reached Indiana's 45 — setting up the deciding sequence.
With 7:13 left in the game and facing fourth down, Hoover hit Marsh again, this time for a 44-yard touchdown that gave the Hoosiers their first lead of the day at 20-17. Nebraska's final chance fizzled when Colandrea was sacked on fourth-and-11 with 1:15 left, sealing the Indiana win.
It was the program's first victory in Lincoln since 2019, and Nebraska's winless run against top-10 opponents reached 31 games. For the Hoosiers, a day that nearly ended their streak instead became its 22nd chapter.
