Himachal CM Sukhu Announces 'Apna Parivar, Sukhi Parivar' Scheme: Rs 1,500 a Month for Eligible Women, 300 Free Electricity Units
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday announced that the state government will launch the 'Apna Parivar, Sukhi Parivar' scheme this month, under which eligible women will receive financial assistance of Rs 1,500 per month and eligible families will get up to 300 units of free electricity. The announcement was made while addressing a public gathering at Nogli in the Rampur assembly constituency of Shimla district. The scheme had earlier been scheduled for launch on October 2.
Relief for outsourced employees
Sukhu also said the government would soon implement a policy to safeguard the interests of outsourced employees, aimed at providing relief to more than 24,000 such workers serving in government departments and public institutions across the state. He noted that the highest number of outsourced appointments were made in 2016 and 2017, and that the workers were spread across education, Jal Shakti, public works, the State Electricity Board and other departments. "A practical and equitable policy will be formulated to secure the future of these outsourced employees and to prevent their exploitation," the chief minister said. The issue had been raised in the state assembly during the monsoon session, where Sukhu had assured the House that the interests of existing outsourced employees would be protected.
Teachers, schools and the debt allegation
The chief minister said over 10,000 teachers had been recruited during the present government's tenure and another 4,000 would be appointed in the next six months. He said more than 150 CBSE schools had been opened in the state with around 2,000 teachers appointed in them, and that 300 schools affiliated with the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education were being developed as Schools of Excellence.
Sukhu alleged the present government had inherited a debt burden of Rs 76,000 crore from the previous BJP government, along with liabilities of around Rs 10,000 crore relating to employees. He said the previous government had made announcements worth over Rs 5,000 crore in the last six months of its tenure without adequate provision for staff and infrastructure, purely for electoral gain.
He also distributed financial assistance of Rs 5.78 crore to 1,471 registered workers and their dependents through the state Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, and announced Rs 2 crore for a new school building at the remote village of Kasha Pat in Rampur.
