Gold prices surged on Friday as spot gold climbed about $63 an ounce to $4,194, rebounding sharply from a two-month low, with investors positioning ahead of key US inflation data.
According to ET Now, spot gold was trading at around $4,194.40 an ounce, up $62.88 or 1.52 per cent, after climbing 1.47 per cent on Friday. The metal has rebounded from a two-month low of about $4,090 touched on Wednesday. Those expecting gold prices to dip below $4,000 an ounce this week saw no such decline. Spot silver was trading at approximately $60.82 an ounce.
In the domestic market, 24-carat gold of 99.9 per cent purity jumped Rs 1,900 per 10 grams in Delhi's spot market, taking prices past the Rs 1.54 lakh mark, according to All India Sarafa Association data. City-wise benchmark prices put 24-carat gold at Rs 1,51,860 per 10 grams in Chennai, while 22-carat gold was priced between Rs 1,38,563 and Rs 1,39,021 per 10 grams across Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. With physical trading suspended on Sunday and the Multi Commodity Exchange closed, the figures reflect Friday's closing rates.
Analysts say investors are monitoring the upcoming US inflation print to understand the direction of interest rates, a key driver for bullion. The firm prices come as India heads into the festive season, when jewellery demand typically picks up.
