Robert Kelker-Kelly, the actor best known for playing Bo Brady on the long-running soap opera Days of Our Lives, has died at the age of 62.
Police in St. Peters, Missouri, said officers responded to Kelker-Kelly's home around 8:16 p.m. local time on Saturday after a report of an unconscious man who was not breathing. CPR was already in progress when officers arrived, and additional life-saving measures were unsuccessful, a department spokesperson confirmed.
Authorities said Kelker-Kelly had complained of chest pain shortly before becoming unresponsive. Police said nothing suspicious was found at the scene and the circumstances appeared consistent with a medical event. A cause of death has not been released publicly.
A daytime television career
Kelker-Kelly began his television career in 1987, when he joined NBC's Another World as Sam Fowler, a role he originated. In 1992 he took over the part of Bo Brady on Days of Our Lives after Peter Reckell's departure, playing the bad-boy hero for nearly 600 episodes until 1995.
He went on to portray Stavros Cassadine on General Hospital in 2001 and returned for guest appearances in later years, most recently in 2014. He also came back to Another World from 1996 to 1998 in a different role, as Dr. Shane Roberts.
Life away from the cameras
In later years Kelker-Kelly stepped out of the spotlight, leaving Los Angeles and pursuing a career as a professional pilot in Missouri.
