"Coyote vs. Acme" is finally making its way from cinemas to home screens after a long and complicated journey to release. The live-action and animated Looney Tunes comedy, starring Will Forte and John Cena, will be available to buy or rent digitally from September 29, 2026.

Where to watch

According to Forbes, the digital release lands just over a month after the film's theatrical debut — it arrived in US theatres on August 28, 2026, through Ketchup Entertainment. The film will be on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) services including Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home and YouTube Movies & TV. It is expected to be available for purchase for $24.99, with digital rentals for a 48-hour viewing period at a lower price point.

The film that refused to die

The home release caps one of the strangest survival stories in recent Hollywood history. Warner Bros. Pictures Animation originally developed the film for HBO Max, then moved it to a July 2023 theatrical slot — before removing it in April 2022 and replacing it with Greta Gerwig's "Barbie", per The Hollywood Reporter.

In November 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery announced it would permanently shelve the completed film as a tax write-off, drawing criticism from the filmmakers and fans. The movie found a second life when independent distributor Ketchup Entertainment acquired it from Warner Bros. in March 2025; it has since crossed $100 million at the worldwide box office.

What it is about

Directed by Dave Green, the film follows Wile E. Coyote after years of failed attempts to catch the Road Runner with Acme products. Instead of another gadget, he takes Acme Corporation to court, claiming its defective products are responsible for his injuries. Will Forte plays Kevin Avery, a struggling personal-injury lawyer who takes the case; John Cena plays Acme's chief legal counsel and Avery's former Harvard classmate; Lana Condor plays Kevin's niece Paige. Eric Bauza voices the familiar characters, including the Road Runner, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety, Elmer Fudd and Foghorn Leghorn.
