CJP's Abhijeet Dipke Calls for 'Lehra Do Tiranga' Gathering at Delhi's Connaught Place on October 16

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has called on supporters to gather with the national tricolour at Central Park in Delhi's Connaught Place on Friday, October 16, escalating the party's ongoing agitation over the arrest of its two co-convenors.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Dipke urged "patriots" to reach Central Park at 5 pm on October 16 with the national flag, using the slogan "Lehra do Tiranga". Those unable to reach Delhi, he said, should take out tricolour marches in their own cities in the evening. He added that he feared he too could be jailed after the demonstration.

Custody of Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka

The call came the same day a Special Executive Magistrate sent CJP co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to five days of judicial custody. The two were detained after entering the Jantar Mantar area — which has been de-notified as a protest site — and hoisting the tricolour there while raising slogans against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to Delhi Police, Das and Ranka were lodged in Tihar Jail after the magistrate considered their alleged violation of peace bonds and a preventive police report warning that they could repeat the violations or instigate others if released. A third associate, Ajinkya Shinde, was bound down to maintain peace and good behaviour for six months and released on a personal bond with a surety of Rs 5,000, police told PTI.

No permission sought, police say

Police officials said the organisers had not sought permission for the October 16 gathering at Central Park, which requires authorisation. With prohibitory orders under Section 163 in force across parts of central Delhi, the chances of the march receiving permission appear slim, according to reports.

The CJP's demonstrations are part of a wider agitation demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Wednesday marked the fifth consecutive day of protests in the capital, with hundreds detained as demonstrators climbed barricades near Jantar Mantar.
