CJP Leaders Meet Delhi Police Seeking Permission for New Protest Site as Agitation Continues

Leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) met Delhi Police officials on Monday morning to seek permission for a new protest site, Times Now reported, as the group's agitation against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar entered a new phase.

The meeting
According to the Times Now live blog, CJP leaders held the meeting with Delhi Police on the morning of October 12. The party has been protesting against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and demanding the CEC's resignation. On Sunday night, the party had said its leaders would visit the Parliament Street police station to seek a date for a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar, warning it would announce its own protest call if no date was given within 24 hours.

Escalating rhetoric
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke posted on X on Monday questioning what made Gyanesh Kumar "so indispensable", alleging that youth, journalists and MPs were being assaulted by Delhi Police. Co-convener Ashutosh Ranka accused the DCP New Delhi of facilitating "right-wing gundagardi". The party's official handle referred to the Delhi Police as "Modi Police", alleging a crackdown on peaceful protesters. These are the party's claims; Delhi Police has maintained that its actions were lawful crowd-control measures during an unauthorised gathering.

Wider opposition mobilisation
The development comes as the opposition INDIA bloc prepares its own march to the Supreme Court on Monday afternoon, with Congress workers asked to gather at the Connaught Place-Barakhamba Road junction at 1.30 pm. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is also expected to join, Times Now reported.
