Raipur has cleared the rulebook that turns its promised job quota for former Agniveer soldiers into actual recruitments. The Chhattisgarh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, on Wednesday approved the 'Chhattisgarh Public Service Former Agniveer Soldiers Recruitment Rules, 2026' at a meeting at Mahanadi Bhawan in the state capital.
What the rules do
The rules provide the framework for implementing a 10 per cent reservation for former Agniveer soldiers in direct recruitment to selected Class III posts in the state civil services. The quota itself was approved by the Cabinet on July 22, 2026; the new rules lay down the appointment and service conditions, recruitment criteria, reservation provisions and the selection process through which it will be applied.
Under the provision, former Agniveers will be eligible for reservation in direct recruitment to three categories of posts: constable in the Police Department, forest guard in the Forest and Climate Change Department, and jail prahari (jail warder) in the Prisons Department.
Who benefits
The measure is aimed at personnel who complete their four-year tenure under the Centre's Agnipath scheme and return to civilian life. With the recruitment framework now cleared, the departments concerned can frame and conduct selections in which the 10 per cent quota is applied to the identified posts.
Other cabinet decisions
The same meeting granted post-facto approval to the revised Guest Lecturer Policy, 2026, for government colleges and universities. Under it, if two candidates of the same category secure equal marks in the merit list, preference will go to a Chhattisgarh domicile candidate, and five of the maximum 30 marks for teaching experience will be awarded for at least five months of teaching at a state university. A working-day-based honorarium system will replace the period-based one.
The cabinet also approved an order giving the film "Hanuman Ansh" tax-free status in the state, reimbursing cinema halls an amount equivalent to the SGST payable on admission.
