Mumbai, October 12: The post-mortem examination of actor Nana Patekar has confirmed that the 75-year-old died of a heart attack caused by a blood clot in his main coronary artery, ruling out any foul play, Goa Police said on Sunday after receiving the autopsy report.
Doctors at Goa Medical College and Hospital concluded that Patekar died of "acute myocardial infarction due to left main coronary artery thrombosis secondary to atherosclerotic occlusive coronary artery disease, a natural cause of death," according to reports by The Hindu and The New Indian Express citing the report.
Case to be closed, say police
Goa Police confirmed the finding and said Patekar's family agreed with the report, adding that the case would now be closed. The Panaji police had registered an unnatural-death case, UD No. 62/2026, under Section 194 of the BNSS after his death.
Patekar was rushed from his Dona Paula home near Panaji to a private hospital in the early hours of October 8 after complaining of feeling unwell. CPR was administered for about 45 minutes before he was declared dead at 5:10 a.m. Reports said a friend received a WhatsApp message from the actor at around 2:30 a.m. saying he was unwell.
The actor was cremated with full state honours, including a three-gun salute, at his farmhouse in Donje, Pune district, on October 8. The funeral was attended by Jackie Shroff, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, Union Ministers Ramdas Athawale and Murlidhar Mohol, and MP Sunil Tatkare.
The autopsy finding brings closure to days of speculation that followed the sudden death of one of Hindi cinema's most respected performers.
