Australia A thumped India A by 125 runs in the first unofficial one-dayer of their three-match series at the Siechem Stadium in Puducherry on Tuesday, powered by Nathan McSweeney's century and a career-best spell from young pacer Mahli Beardman.
From 87 for 5 to 274
Australia A were in trouble early, losing half their side by the 17th over. McSweeney, who made 123 off 135 balls with 13 fours — his second List A hundred — then combined with skipper Will Sutherland for a 141-run sixth-wicket stand in 23.2 overs. Sutherland smashed 77 off 68 balls, including four sixes, three of them off successive deliveries from left-arm spinner Anukul Roy. Suryansh Shedge — called up to the India A squad as an injury replacement for Hardik Pandya — broke the stand by clean-bowling Sutherland and finished with 4 for 40, his second List A four-wicket haul. Australia A were bowled out for 274 in 48.2 overs.
India A collapse
The 21-year-old Beardman then produced the best figures of his career, taking 4 for 23 to dismantle India A's top order, dismissing Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal and wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh as the hosts slumped to 24 for 3 in the fourth over. Spencer Johnson removed skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad to make it 58 for 4, and India A were eventually bowled out for 149 in 31.4 overs. Rajat Patidar top-scored with 53 off 51 balls, his 14th List A fifty.
McSweeney was named Player of the Match. The second one-dayer is on October 9 and the final match on October 11, both at Puducherry.
