South Korea collected six gold medals in a single day at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Thursday, October 1, tightening its grip on third place in the overall standings.

The haul came across four disciplines — shooting (two golds), archery (one), taekwondo (two) and judo (one) — in one of Korea's strongest single days of the Games, Aju Press reported.

Shooting: a 12-year wait ends

In the men's 25m rapid fire pistol team event, Song Jong-ho, Yoon Seo-young and Lee Geon-hyeok combined for 1,749 points to beat China (1,740) by nine points, with Indonesia third on 1,720. It was Korea's first team gold in the event since the 2014 Incheon Games, per Aju Press and ChosunBiz.

Lee Geon-hyeok then added the individual title, winning the final with 32 points after a second shoot-off against China's Su Lianbo — becoming the first South Korean to win both individual and team rapid fire pistol at the same Asian Games since Kim Jun-hong in 2014. The 32-point final was an Asian record score, the Korea Times reported.

Archery and taekwondo deliver

Kim Jong-ho won the men's compound individual archery final 149-145 over Chinese Taipei's Cheng Cheng-wei — the first time a South Korean man has won the compound individual event at the Asian Games, per Aju Press and the Korea JoongAng Daily.

In taekwondo poomsae, Jeong Ha-eun won the women's individual with an average of 9.3100 points, while Yoon Gyu-seong took the men's individual at 9.3800. Heo Mi-mi added Korea's first judo gold of the Games, winning the women's 57kg final against Mongolia's Ariunzhaya Terbish.

The day also brought four bronze medals, including one for 14-year-old Kang Yeon-seo in women's compound individual. Korea's overall tally after October 1 stood at 30 gold, 30 silver and 52 bronze — third behind China (154 gold) and Japan, per Aju Press.
