Asian Games 2026: Kabaddi Double Gold Headlines India's Strong Showing at Aichi-Nagoya

India is enjoying one of its finest Asian Games campaigns at Aichi-Nagoya 2026, with the country's athletes piling up medals across shooting, kabaddi, cricket, athletics and more. The standout moment so far has been kabaddi, where both the men's and women's teams struck gold by defeating Iran in their finals.

The women's kabaddi team edged Iran 37-34 in a tense final to retain their title, extending India's unbeaten record in the event ever since women's kabaddi was introduced at the Asian Games in 2010. The men followed with an equally commanding performance, beating Iran 40-34 to claim gold.

Shooting has been India's biggest medal factory. Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet — paired at the last minute — won gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, topping qualification with 587-29x before finishing the final with 484.6 points to beat South Korea. The shooting squad has also collected a string of silvers, including Elavenil Valarivan in the women's 10m air rifle, the men's and women's 10m air rifle teams, and the men's 50m rifle 3 positions team of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil and Niraj Kumar.

On the track, Sawan Barwal ended a 44-year wait by winning silver in the men's marathon with a national record time of 2:11:37, while Tajinderpal Singh Toor added silver in the men's shot put. Mirabai Chanu brought home silver in the women's 49kg weightlifting category.

India's first gold of the Games came from the women's cricket team in the T20 event. In squash, Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar secured a mixed doubles bronze, while youngsters Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh stormed into their singles finals.

With the medal tally climbing past 25 — including four golds — and more finals to come, India looks set for a memorable finish at Aichi-Nagoya.
