ASE Technology Rides the AI Chip Boom as Advanced Packaging Sales Head Toward $3.5 Billion

Taiwan's ASE Technology Holding, the world's largest independent provider of semiconductor assembly, packaging and testing, is emerging as one of the clearest beneficiaries of the artificial intelligence hardware boom, with its leading-edge advanced packaging business on track for more than $3.5 billion in sales in 2026.

At the centre of the AI supply chain

ASE's services sit at a critical step of chipmaking: after foundries such as TSMC produce silicon wafers, ASE slices, packages, integrates and tests the components that go into smartphones, servers, cars and AI data centres. Its leading-edge advanced packaging, or LEAP, portfolio covers 2.5D and 3D stacking, chiplets and system-in-package designs, bundled under its VIPack architecture optimised for AI, high-performance computing and optical networking. Chief Operating Officer Tien Wu told analysts that "we are at the beginning of the AI paradigm shift," adding that AI hardware requirements are getting "more complicated and more complex."

Numbers that underscore demand

The company's guidance reflects that momentum. ASE has told investors LEAP sales should exceed $3.5 billion in 2026 and reach at least $7 billion in 2027, and it raised this year's capital expenditure to about $10.5 billion, up from $5.5 billion in 2025, to fund 13 greenfield and eight brownfield sites. In the second quarter, revenue rose 27 percent from a year earlier to T$191.06 billion (about $5.88 billion), while net income jumped 180 percent to T$21.068 billion. Analysts have taken note: SinoPac's Yen Chun Wang rates the stock a buy, and Wall Street expects full-year revenue of about $25.78 billion.

Why it matters

ASE's subsidiary Siliconware Precision Industries is a major packaging supplier for Nvidia's AI chips, tying the company's fortunes directly to the AI infrastructure buildout. With its shares up more than 100 percent so far this year, ASE has become a bellwether for how the AI wave is spreading beyond chip designers to the specialist manufacturers behind them.
