Chinese electronics manufacturer Luxshare Precision Industry, a key supplier to Apple, has said it expects little negative impact from a newly launched United States patent-infringement investigation, telling investors it is actively preparing a response to protect shareholder interests.
US trade commission launches inquiry
Luxshare said in an exchange filing published late on Saturday that the US International Trade Commission opened a Section 337 investigation into the company and its subsidiary Dongguan Luxshare Technology on October 9. The inquiry follows patent-infringement claims brought by US power-electronics firm Vicor Corp. The probe is still at a preliminary stage and the ITC has made no substantive findings, the company said.
Power-delivery systems under scrutiny
The investigation focuses on vertical power delivery systems, related components and computing systems containing them. Luxshare said the affected products, which are used in power modules and power-supply solutions for data centres, have not yet entered mass production, and that the inquiry was therefore unlikely to have a material adverse effect on its business operations or near-term results.
Company mounts a response
The Shenzhen-listed company (002475.SZ) said it has begun studying the patents and products involved and is organising technical, legal and business teams to prepare its defence. It added that it would strengthen cooperation with clients and supply-chain partners and actively safeguard the interests of the company and its shareholders. A Section 337 investigation can, if it finds a violation, result in exclusion orders barring the import of infringing products into the United States.
