Anthropic has launched Claude Haiku 5.5, the third model in its Claude 5.5 family in the past month, expanding its artificial intelligence lineup as the company heads toward a planned initial public offering, Reuters reported.

Haiku models are Anthropic's compact, cost-efficient offerings, built for high-volume tasks such as classification, summarisation and data extraction. The company positions the new model for live customer support, voice agents and in-app assistants — the kind of always-on workloads where per-token pricing decides which provider wins enterprise contracts.

75 per cent cheaper than its predecessor

The new model costs 75 per cent less than its predecessor, Haiku 4.5. Anthropic has priced Haiku 5.5 at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts under 100,000 tokens, rising to $0.50 and $2.50 respectively for longer prompts.

Anthropic said Haiku 5.5 is the first model in the Haiku line with built-in safeguards for a narrow set of high-risk cybersecurity requests, adding that most everyday tasks would not be affected. The safeguard language comes as regulators and enterprise buyers press AI firms to show that smaller, faster models are not easier to weaponise.

The launch caps a rapid release cadence for the San Francisco company: three Claude 5.5 models in roughly a month, each aimed at a different tier of the market. The pace reflects the pressure Anthropic faces to broaden its product portfolio before its planned market debut, as it competes with OpenAI, Google and xAI for both developer attention and the enormous compute commitments that underpin frontier-model training.

A busy week for Anthropic

The Haiku launch follows Anthropic's rollout of Claude for Google Workspace, which places the assistant inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides through a sidebar add-on, currently in public beta for subscribers of paid Claude plans. The integration puts Claude in direct competition with Google's Gemini and Microsoft 365 Copilot on their home turf.
