The film industry continued to mourn Nana Patekar on Friday, with Amitabh Bachchan opening the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati with an emotional eulogy and Anil Kapoor penning a heartfelt note remembering his Welcome co-star as the world's biggest artist.

Bachchan's KBC eulogy

Bachchan paused the quiz show to honour Patekar, describing him as an unparalleled artist, a friend, a well-wisher and an exceptional social worker whose fearlessness, simplicity and courage to call the truth exactly as it was set him apart from everyone else. He recalled Patekar's appearance on the sixteenth season of KBC, when the actor dedicated the prize money he won to a noble cause — supporting drought-hit farmers in Maharashtra — calling it a testament to his commitment to social service. The two had shared the screen in the 1999 action drama Kohram. Sony LIV later posted the tribute on Instagram.

Anil Kapoor remembers "Nanya"

Anil Kapoor, who played Uday opposite Patekar's Majnu in the hit Welcome films, shared a photograph with his late co-star on Instagram and wrote: "Mera dost mujhe chhodkar chala gaya... Pehle Satish aur ab mera Nanya." Remembering Satish Kaushik, who died in 2023, Kapoor said he would miss Patekar in his life, on film sets, on the phone and on the big screen. The two also appeared together in Parinda and Welcome Back, and Patekar made a special appearance in Kapoor's action drama series Subedaar.

Tributes also poured in from Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan — who wrote "Nanaaaaa... Rest in peace bhau" — Katrina Kaif, Jubin Nautiyal and others across the fraternity.

State honours at Donje

Patekar, 75, died on Thursday after a severe cardiac arrest at his Goa residence; doctors at Manipal Hospital attempted to revive him for about 45 minutes. His last rites were performed with full state honours at his farmhouse in Donje village near Pune, where he was given a 3-gun salute and his son Malhar lit the funeral pyre. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid his respects at Pune airport, while Deputy Chief Ministers Sunetra Pawar and Eknath Shinde, minister Chandrakant Patil and others offered floral wreaths.
