Amazon is in advanced discussions to acquire Decart, an Israeli-founded artificial intelligence startup, in a deal that could be valued at around $7 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter.

According to the report, an agreement could be signed soon unless the talks collapse or another bidder emerges. Neither Amazon nor Decart has commented publicly, and Reuters said it could not independently verify the report.

What Decart builds

Decart was founded in San Francisco in 2023 by brothers Dean and Orian Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev, three Israeli engineers. The startup develops software that allows AI models to run across chips from different manufacturers with minimal re-tuning — a capability that removes a burden developers face when moving models off specialized hardware, and one that is increasingly valuable as enterprises look to reduce dependence on a single GPU supplier.

The company also works on what it calls world models: AI systems designed to simulate and interact with real-world environments. Its Lucy model can edit live video in real time, while Oasis generates interactive simulations used to train and test physical AI systems such as robots and autonomous vehicles.

PitchBook data cited in the Journal's reporting puts Decart's valuation at nearly $4 billion as of May, after a $300 million funding round led by Radical Ventures with Nvidia joining as a new investor. Its backers also include Sequoia Capital and Benchmark.

A second chance after Anthropic walked away

Amazon is not the first large technology company to eye Decart. Nvidia reportedly pursued an acquisition before Anthropic emerged as the preferred bidder in August, exploring a deal potentially worth $6 billion. Anthropic then abandoned the pursuit in September after conducting due diligence, according to Bloomberg News, leaving Decart searching for another acquirer.

Amazon may be the most natural fit. AWS is already a strategic customer of the startup, and the Journal reported that Amazon gave Decart early access to Trainium3, its third-generation custom AI chip, in 2025 after being impressed by the company's founders.

If completed, a $7 billion deal would deepen Amazon's push into AI infrastructure, stitching its in-house silicon together with a software layer purpose-built to bridge proprietary chips and customer workloads — a direct challenge to Nvidia's dominant position in AI accelerators.
