Indian football is about to become free to watch. The Indian Super League has named YouTube as its digital distribution partner for the 2026-27 season, with every match streamed live and free on the platform.
New broadcast lineup
Under the arrangement announced on October 7, all 163 matches of the season will be streamed live and free on YouTube. Sony Sports Network becomes the league's exclusive television broadcaster in India, while SonyLIV will stream all 163 matches as well.
The YouTube partnership goes beyond live games: the platform will also carry highlights, Shorts, interviews, behind-the-scenes content and fan-led conversations around the league.
The most accessible season yet
ISL CEO Karan Yadav said the goal is to make the ISL "the most accessible league in the country," citing India's connected-TV audience of 166 million monthly viewers — up 23% year-on-year — and noting that YouTube's connected-TV device-hours in India are up 77% over the past two years. Gunjan Soni, Managing Director (India) at YouTube, and Rajesh Kaul of Sony Pictures Networks India were also quoted in the announcement.
Season structure
The 2026-27 season features 13 teams. The first phase comprises 78 matches running from October 10, 2026 to January 17, 2027, with 53 of them scheduled across Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Defending champions East Bengal FC, who won their maiden title last season with a 2-1 comeback over Inter Kashi, will headline the opening rounds.
With the season kicking off in just two days, Indian football's bet on free streaming could reset how domestic club football reaches audiences — and how many fans it wins.
