World number one Ahn Se-young continued her relentless 2026 campaign on Tuesday, comfortably advancing to the round of 16 at the Denmark Open and recording the 57th win of a season that is approaching historic proportions.

The 24-year-old South Korean, playing at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense, defeated Ukraine's Polina Bukhlrova, ranked world number 41, 2-0 (21-13, 21-11) in just 36 minutes in the women's singles round of 32 at the Super 750 event. Ahn surged to an early lead with four consecutive points in the opening game and repelled Bukhlrova's mid-game comeback with another four-point burst at 13-10, before pulling away decisively in the second.

A season for the record books

The victory took Ahn's 2026 record to 57 wins against a single defeat in 58 matches — a win rate of 98.28 percent. She has not lost once since falling to world number two Wang Zhiyi of China in the All England Open final in March. With eight women's singles titles already this year, she is chasing a ninth in Odense and remains on course to surpass last season's mark of 11 titles, the most ever in a single season.

Defending champion, Asian Games gold in hand

Ahn returned from the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games with a gold medal around her neck and is the defending champion in Denmark, having beaten Wang Zhiyi in last year's final to capture the title for the first time. She retired injured during the 2021 final and finished runner-up in 2024, making last year's triumph a personal redemption.

The two-event European swing continues with the France Open starting on October 20, where she will target further history.
