Days before Jailer 2 arrives in cinemas, Rajinikanth has revealed that his co-star Mithun Chakraborty initially refused to play the film's villain — and only agreed on one memorable condition: that the superstar's character must neither beat him up nor shoot him.
How Mithun Came on Board
Speaking at the recent Jailer 2 Super Show event, Rajinikanth recalled that when the production team first approached Mithun for the antagonist's role, he turned it down outright. Rajinikanth said his close friend was taken aback at the idea of playing the villain to his hero, asking why he should take beatings from Rajinikanth — and refused.
The stalemate broke during an edition of the WAVES Summit, which the Prime Minister also attended. There, Mithun told Rajinikanth that if he personally approved, he would do the film. But there was a catch: Rajinikanth's character, Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, should neither beat him up nor shoot him. Rajinikanth said he promised to check with director Nelson Dilipkumar — though he added that he was sure Mithun was saying it more in jest than in earnest.
A Reunion Nearly Three Decades in the Making
Jailer 2 pairs the two legends on screen nearly three decades after they first worked together in Ramesh Sippy's 1989 crime drama Bhrashtachar. It also marks Mithun's return to Tamil cinema after more than a decade — his Tamil debut was Yagavarayinum Naa Kaakka in 2015, and he has not appeared in another Tamil film since.
